We recently completed a comprehensive refurbishment of 6 HVAC unit for John Lewis Solihull.
The Challenge
The John Lewis Partnership tasked Oaksmere Design with delivering a key part of its decarbonisation strategy: removing gas-dependent HVAC systems across its retail estate. On their behalf, Oaksmere engaged Weatherite to upgrade legacy units to gas-free alternatives without compromising performance or disrupting store operations.
Our Approach
Weatherite Air Conditioning leveraged its deep knowledge of the client’s existing infrastructure to design a bespoke solution that would:
- Completely eliminate gas dependency within the HVAC systems
- Maintain or improve energy efficiency
- Ensure minimal disruption to store operations
- Create a replicable model for future store conversions
Our team worked closely with all contractors involved, establishing clear communication channels and detailed implementation protocols ensuring potential issues were identified and addressed before they could impact the project timeline.
Solutions
Weatherite Air Conditioning designed and delivered a custom HVAC upgrade, replacing starting with one of six units as a proof of concept to assess performance before upgrading the rest.
The solution featured:
- Advanced electric-powered heating and cooling technology
- Integration with existing building management systems
- Energy-efficient components supporting the client’s sustainability goals
- No structural modifications to accommodate new equipment
Results and Impact
The first unit conversion/upgrade has been successfully completed and handed over to the client with exceptional results:
- Zero Gas Dependency: Complete elimination of gas usage in the converted unit
- Seamless Implementation: Minimal disruptions during the conversion process
- On-Schedule Delivery: Project milestones met without delays
- Client Satisfaction: Immediate approval to proceed with all other units onsite.
Perhaps most remarkably, a project of this scope and complexity experienced no significant issues – a testament to Weatherite Air Conditioning’s meticulous planning and constant communication between all parties.
